Health Care System Overview
What is happening in Health Care today?
Though it may not be obvious to you as a consumer, there is much change happening in Ontario's health care system. Government has moved to a regionalized approach in delivering health care by dividing the province into 14 areas called Local Health Integration Networks (LHINS). These new areas have new staff and boards of directors who are responsible for planning and managing the health care resources for each geographical location. Still in its infancy, LHINs have a big mandate to improve the system so it meets each person's needs, makes it easier to transition to the next health service needed, and make it more efficient. What does this mean for you? Hopefully in future you will have a better experience when you need health services with better integrated care and more availability of the services you need the most.
What is happening in Home and Community Support?
Home and Community Support agencies continue to operate with the client as the main focus of care. We are there and will continue to be wherever you need us, assisting you in maintaining your independence at home and supporting your family and friends who are helping you do it.
We are welcoming a change in the way our system operates and look forward to building a better health system that recognizes the needs and wishes of clients to have ample community supports in every community and be able to live at home as long as possible.
