Volunteers
Help improve your community and your skills by becoming a volunteer! Not only can you learn new skills and insights, you'll also help someone maintain their independence and a better quality of life. There are a number of volunteer options available that you can choose from:
Meals on Wheels®
You can help delivery meals and provide a friendly presence and a vital security check for isolated people. Both drivers and runners are needed.
Friendly Visiting
You can choose to become a volunteer visitor matched with an older person. You'll spend a few hours visiting each week, in person or on the phone, or going on short outings for lunch or to shop.
Sherry, one of our volunteer visitors, had this to say: "Volunteering really is a two way, win-win thing. Listening and learning from someone who has lived such a long, full life has been very rewarding for me. And she is so appreciative of every little thing we do together. I am sure even the busiest of people can find an hour or two a week. And I know they'd be enriched by it."
Transportation
If you have a car, you can assist people in traveling to medical appointments, the bank or the shopping mall. Volunteers are reimbursed for their mileage.
Other Activities
You can also choose to help on a committee or in the office. Perhaps you'd like to run for the Board of Directors, or you have a special talent you'd like to share, such as music or crafts. No matter what your skills and talents, there are many opportunities to help.
Training is provided to all volunteers so you will feel both comfortable and properly equipped to fulfill your new volunteer role.
To volunteer, use our Care Finder to call the number of your local community support agency. They'll be happy to help you find an activity that fits your skills, interests and availability.
