What are community support services?

Community support services assist seniors, people with disabilities and individuals with special needs to remain comfortably and safely at home in their own communities. Community support is based on a firm philosophy that values friendly, caring and personalized service, in order to enhance self esteem and promote independence.

How do I find the services in my community?
Use our Service Finder to locate the community support agency nearest you. Give them a call. They will be happy to help you find the services you may need. You can also contact your local Community Care Access Centre.

What do the services cost?
The cost for each of the services vary and financial aid may be available. You can discuss the costs with a staff person at your local agency or Community Care Access Centre.

How do I know if I’m eligible for services?
Generally, community support services are designed for the following people:

  • frail elderly
  • persons with disabilities
  • persons who are chronically ill
  • convalescent individuals
  • caregivers for all of the above

Eligibility requirements vary depending on the service. You can discuss the eligibility requirements with a staff person at your local agency or Community Care Access Centre.
